Soln : 1.46 × 10^6 m/s

Explanation:

Energy of the electron in the 3rd orbit of He+ is

E3 = -13.6 × Z^2 / n^2 eV = -13.6 × 4/3^2 eV

E3 = -136 × 4/9 = 1.6 × 10^-19 J

From Bohr's model,

E3 = -KE3 = -1/2 mev^2

=> 1/2 × 9.1 × 10^-31 × v^2 = -13.6 × 4/9 × 1.6 × 10^-19

=> v^2 = ( 136 × 16 × 4 × 2 × 10^-11 ) / 9 × 91

or, v = 1.46 × 10^6 m/s

∴ The Speed of the electron in this orbit will be 1.46 × 10^6 m/s !
