help for XeF2 hybridization, geometry, sigma bond, lone pair, shape and with the reason how you get that this is the answer especially sigma bond and lonr pair

I will mark you as brainliest and follow you only in the condition of that, that the person should give the genuine answer

LET ME SHARE A FORMULA WITH YOU .

1/2(VALENCY OF CENTRAL ATOM + NO.OF MONOVALENT ATOMS -POSITIVE CHARGE + NEGATIVE CHARGE )

THE NUMBER YOU GET BY SOLVING THIS WILL HELP YOU DECIDE THE HYBRIDISATION .

IN CASE OF XeF2 ,

the hybridisation will be ,

1/2(8 + 2)

( 8 is the valency of Xe , F2 are two monovalent atoms attached to it and there is no charge on the compound hence equation stops there )

so solving it you get 5 which stands for

sp3d hybridisation . Fine , this states it must have trigonal bipyramidal geometry , but it isn't so . The structure of XeF2 is linear. Why so ? THE XeF2 molecule has 3 lone pairs which cause repulsion strongly . This causes the molecule to attain a shape where it faces least repulsion . Hence it acquires linear shape .

Also all the bonds (2 bonds) in the molecule are single bonds , hence sigma bonds .

IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS , MENTION IN THE COMMENT .

HOPE THIS HELPED
