Solution :

In the passage , the only information worthy here :

It is mentioned that one pipe can fill the pool in 12 hours and another can fill the same pool in 18 hours.

Now , both the pipes are opened at the same time .

So , work done by them in 1 hr

=> 1/12 + 1/18

=> ⅙ ( ½ + ⅓ )

=> ⅙ ( ⅚ )

=> 5/36.

Thus , the required time taken :

=> (36/5) hours

=> 7.2 hours .

The pipes are opened at 8 am .

So , the pool will be filled at - ( 8 am + 7.2 hours )

=> ( 12 pm + 3.2 hrs )

=> 3 pm + ⅕ th of an hour

=> 3:12 pm .

Thus , the pool will not be filled by 2 pm .

The pool will get filled exactly at 3:12 pm .

Yeah the situation would have been different if the pool was booked ahead of time.

The best decision to make is to schedule this to a later time on that day .
