Given :

First pipe can fill the pool in 12 hours

Second pipe can fill the pool in 18 hours

To Find :

If we opened both pipes at 8 AM will it filled by 2 PM

Solution :

We have to find whether the tank be filled by 2 PM when it opened at 8 AM

8 AM to 2 PM It denotes 6 hours

From Given we can observe that ,

The first pipe can fill the tank = 12 hours

The water filled by the pipe in 1 hour =

 \frac{x}{12}

The second pipe can fill the tank = 18 hours

The water filled by the pipe in 1 hour =

 \frac{x}{18}

The water filled by both the pipes in 1 hour is

 \frac{x}{12}  +  \frac{x}{18} = 1  \\  \frac{18x + 12x}{216}  = 1 \\   \frac{30x}{216}  = 1 \\ 30x = 216 \\ x =  \frac{216}{30}  \\ x = 7.2

The time taken by 2 pipes to fill the tank is 7.2 hours.

1.No the pool cant be filled by 2 PM because if the pipes fillwd the tank in 6 hours then it may filled by 2 PM. But the pipes taken 7.2 hours to fill the tank.

2. the pooled will be filled by 3;20 PM exactly

3. yes the situation would be diffrent when we planned the event ahead of time

4.B)Move the schedule later time within the day
