hi

In “‘Help Him Up!’: A Witness’s Account of Panic on a Subway Platform,” Michael Wilson describes how people on the platform react when a man falls onto New York City subway tracks.

As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Honor & Courage, Morality, and Social Pressure as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :

"What is good and how do we know?", "Why do people follow the crowd?", and "What makes a hero?"

Ways to support your child:

Ask your child about this piece of non-fiction at home:

What was "“Help Him Up!”: A Witness’s Account of Panic on a Subway Platform" About

What did you learn about? About Morality? About Social Pressure?

Watch the following clips with your child at home:

'Rush Hour, Tokyo by Shomei Tomatsu'

'The Man in the Water'

'The Bystander Effect'

'“Spider-Man” of Paris rescues dangling child'

hope it helps (:

Answer:

Explanation:

I was sitting on one of those benches on the platform waiting for the metro to arrive. I had noticed a man in his early to mid-thirties standing dangerously close to the rail tracks.

I intended to warn her but decided against. He looked lost. Just as the signal turned green and the train was entering the platform, I saw him jump in front of the train.

There were shouts and yells, someone said, “Help him Up.”
