Step-by-step explanation:

If we find the length of each side

we get a common length of 26 cm

Hence, the given fig. is of a square

Since area of square =

 {s}^{2}

Also, there are two triangle shapes in the fig..

so, we need

area of triangle =

 \frac{1}{2}  \times base \times height

Therefore,

the area of shaded region = area of square ABCD - (area of ∆ AFE + area of ∆ EBG)

=

  {s}^{2}  - (\frac{1}{2}  \times AF  \times AE \times   )  + ( \frac{1}{2}  \times EB \times  BG)

  {s}^{2}  - (\frac{1}{2}  \times AF  \times AE \times   )  + ( \frac{1}{2}  \times EB \times  BG) \\  =  ({26})^{2} -  ( \frac{1}{2}  \times 8 \times 16) + ( \frac{1}{2}  \times 10 \times 18) \\  = 676 - ( \frac{128}{2})  + ( \frac{180}{2} ) \\  = 676 - 64 + 90 \\  = 676  - 154 \\  = 522 \:  {cm}^{2}

The area of the shaded region is 522 cm².
