Answer :-

Conversion of nitrates into free nitrogen.

Option (C) is correct

The nitrate formed in the soil are converted into free nitrogen by a bacteria named us pseudomonas . The free nitrogen ether escapes into the atmosphere or is changed to ammonia and later to nitrate and nitrites. The conversion of nitrates into nitrogen by dentrifying bacteria is called dentrification.

In dentrification process bacteria convert nitrate ions of soil to gaseous nitrogen due to which the fertility of soil decrease but these bacteria play an important role in the significant process such as nitrogen cycling. the loss of nitrogen from soil also take place due to seasonal flood and heavy irrigation .

More Information

  • The process of conversion of ammonium ion to nitrate is called nitrification.
  • When plants and animal die the protein present in the mark converted to Salt of ammonia by putrefying bacteria and fungi this process is called ammonification .
  • The cyclic changes by which nitrogen is continuously circulated between living and nonliving components of the biosphere, is known as nitrogen cycle.

Nitrogen cycle divided into 5 step-

  1. Nitrogen fixation
  2. Nitrogen assimilation
  3. Ammonification
  4. Nitrification
  5. Dentrification
