1) . Given

 {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 14 \: and \:  \\ xy = 5

To find

(x + y) {}^{2}

 {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  + 2xy \\  =  > 14 + 2(5) \\  =  > 14 + 10 \\  =  > 24

2). Given

(x + y) {}^{2}  = 361 \: and \: \\ xy = 120

To find

 {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}

....

(x + y) {}^{2}  = 361 \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  + 2xy = 361 \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  + 2(120) = 361 \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 361 - 240 \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 121
