Step-by-step explanation:

given

40 ,42,45,x -1 ,x +2,51,54,62

meadian = 49

so aa we can see number of observation= n = 8 even

so

meadian =  \frac{ \frac{n}{2}th \: obeservation \:  + ( \frac{n}{2}  + 1)th \: observation}{2}

put n =8 n median = 49 we get

49 =  \frac{ \frac{8}{2} th +  \frac{8}{2}  + 1th} {2}

49 = 4th \:  + 5th \div 2

49 \times 2 = x - 1 + x + 2

98 = 2x + 1

98 - 1 = 2x

97 = 2x

 \frac{97}{2}

x = 48.5

no put value we get

x -1 = 48.5 -1 =47.5

x +2 = 48.5+2=50.2

for mean

as we know formula

mean =  \frac{sum \: of \: observation}{tota \: numberof \: observation}

mean \:  =  \frac{40 + 42 + 45 + 47.5 + 50.5 + 51 + 54 + 62}{8}

mean =

 \frac{392}{8}

mean =49
