We will use the difference of squares identity which can be written:

a^2-b^2=(a-b)(a+b)

So we note that:

x^4-13x^2+36

=(x^2)^2-13(x^2)+36

=(x^2-9)(x^2-4)

=(x-3)(x+3)(x-2)(x+2)
