Malik earns $9.50 per hour at his job. He deposits everything he earns into his savings account. He currently has $100 in his savings account. Linda earns $7.00 per hour at her job. She deposits everything she earns into her savings account. She currently has $320 in her savings account. Write a system of equations that can be used to determine when Malik and Linda will have an equal amount of money in their accounts after working the same number of hours. How many work hours will it take for Malik and Linda to have an equal amount of money in their accounts? Show your work. Enter your equations, answer, and work in the box below

Answer:

Work hours taken by Malik and linda both = Y = 88 hrs.

Equal amount of money in both accounts = X = $936

Step-by-step explanation:

Malik earns $9.5 per hour(Mr).

His inital saving M1 = $ 100

Linda earns(Lr) $7 per hour with inital savings L1 = $ 320

Let the final amount with both  = X

and the hours worked  = Y

For malik,

Final saving amount for malik = Inital saving amount + Rate of work × No. of hours worked

∴ X = 100 + 9.5 × Y  .... (1)

For linda,

Final saving amount of linda = Inital saving amount + Rate of work × No. of hours worked

∴ X = 320 + 7 × Y .....(2)

Equating both eqn 1 & 2

∴ 100 + 9.5 Y = 320 + 7Y

∴ 9.5Y - 7Y = 320 - 100

∴ 2.5 Y = 220

∴ Y = 220 / 2.5

∴ Y = 88 hrs

Putting value of Y in eqn 1, we get

X = 100 + 9.5 Y

∴ X = 100 + 9.5 × 88

∴ X = 100 + 836

∴ X = 936

∴ Work hours taken by Malik and linda both = Y = 88 hrs.

Equal amount of money in both accounts = X = $936
