It is given that, ratio of copper to zinc is 7:8 in the alloy. So,

Let the weight of copper be 7x

Weight of zinc be 8x

We are also given that, weight of copper is 8.4 kg.

Hence,

→ 7x = 8.4

→ x = 8.4 / 7

→ x = 1.2

So, weight of zinc = 8x

Weight of zinc = 8 × 1.2 = 9.6

Weight of zinc in the alloy is 9.6 kg.

Explanation

Let,

  • Weight of zinc = x kg

According to question

==> 7 : 8 = 8.4 × x

==> x/8.4 = 8/7

==> x = 8 × 8.7/7

==> x = 69.6/7

==> x = 9.94 kg

Hence

  • Weight of zinc will be = 9.94 kg
