x = 2y. (1)
as per second statement
3x = 224 + 2y
3x - 2y = 224. ( 2)
substituting x= 2y from equation (1) into equation (2), we get
3*(2y) - 2y = 224
6y - 2y = 224
4y = 224
y = 224/4 = $ 56
hence price of a book is $ 56
