Q) What is GDP?

  • Ans) GDP is the market value of the final goods and services produced within the domestic of a country for one year.
  • Central government ministry fulfills the task of measuring the GDP in India.
  • The ministry with the help of various government departments of the Indian states and
  • Union territories collect information regarding to the total volume of goods and services  and their price and estimate the GDP  

Q) What do you mean by unemployment?

  • Ans) A situation in which a section of people are able and willing to work but  do not find gainful work is referred to as ‘unemployment’.

Some consequences of unemployment are:

i) Unemployment leads to wastage of manpower resource. People who are an  asset for the economy turn into a liability.

ii) There is a feeling of hopelessness and despair among the youth. People do  not have enough money to support their family.

iii) Inability of educated people who are willing to work to find gainful  employment implies a great social waste.

iv) Unemployment tends to increase economic overload. The dependence of the  unemployed on the working population increases. The quality of life of an  individual as well as of society is adversely affected.

Q) What do you mean by disguised unemployment ?

  • Ans) Disguised - It is when an individual appears to be employed, but he does not add to the productivity. That is, the productivity would  remain the same even in his absence.
  • Example: When a work that requires only three individuals for its  completion the same work is being done by five persons, the two additional persons are disguised unemployed.

Q) What is NAREGA ?

  • Ans) NAREGA - National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
  • It was started in 2005.

Q) What do you mean by food security?

  • Ans) Food security is to protect the availability, accessibility and affordability of food for every citizen of India through buffer stock procured by FCI- Food Cooperation Of India.
