mass of HNO3 = 1 * 1 + 14*1 + 16*3 = 1 + 14 + 48 = 63

mass of oxygen in HNO3 = 16 * 3 = 48

therefor mass percentage of oxygen = (48/63)*100 = 0.76 * 100 = 76% (approx)
