To find : Acceleration of block and trolley system and tension in the string.

Solution:

For block,m  = 3kg, W = 30 N,

Applying Newton's law in vertical direction,

30 - T = 3 a     ....{i)

For trolley,m = 20kg

Applying Newton's law in horizontal direction,

T - fk = 20 a       ....(ii)

where, fk = kinetic friction = μk *N = 0.04 * 20 * 10 = 8 N

Putting value of fk and solving eq(i) and ii:

We will obtain T = 27.2 N and a = 0.96 m/s²

Therefore, acceleration of block and trolley = 0.96 m/s²

and , Tension in the string = 27.2 N
