Question:-

Rahul travels 2 km towards east then turns and travels 3 km towards north and then again travels 2 km towards east. It tooks him overall 45 min to do so. Find his:

(i) Speed

(ii) Velocity

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Given:-

  • Distance towards east = 2 km

  • Distance towards North = 3 km

  • Distance again towards east = 2 km

  • Time take to travel = 45 min

To Find:-

  • His Speed

  • His Velocity

Formulas Used:-

  • {\boxed{\bf{Speed=\dfrac{Distance}{Time}}}}

  • {\boxed{\bf{Velocity=\dfrac{Displacement}{Time}}}}

Solution:-

Firstly,

Time Taken = 45 min = 45/60 hrs = 3/4 hrs

So,

(i)

\sf:\implies\:Speed=\dfrac{Distance}{Time}

\sf:\implies\:Speed=\dfrac{2+3+2}{\dfrac{3}{4}}

\sf:\implies\:Speed=\dfrac{7\times4}{3}

\sf:\implies\:Speed=\dfrac{28}{3}

\sf:\implies\:Speed=9.\overline{33}kmh^{-1}

Hence, His Speed is 28/3 km/h or 9.33 km/h.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

(ii)

Displacement = \sqrt{2^2+1.5^2}+\sqrt{2^2+1.5^2} km

Displacement = \sqrt{6.25}+\sqrt{6.25} km

Displacement = 2.5 + 2.5 km

Displacement = 5 km

\sf :\implies\:Velocity=\dfrac{Displacement}{Time}

\sf :\implies\:Velocity=\dfrac{5}{\dfrac{3}{4}}

\sf :\implies\:Velocity=\dfrac{5\times4}{3}

\sf :\implies\:Velocity=6.66kmh^{-1}

Hence, His Velocity is 20/3 km/h or 6.66 km/h.
