Cost of cloth per metre

40 \frac{1}{2}  =  \frac{40 \times 2 + 1}{2}  =  \frac{81}{2}

Cost of 10 3/5 metre is

10 \frac{3}{5}  =  \frac{10  \times 5 + 3}{5}  =  \frac{53}{5}

Total cost is

 \frac{81}{2}  \times  \frac{53}{5}  =  \frac{81 \times 53}{2 \times 5}  =  \frac{4293}{10}  =  429\frac{3}{10}

therefore \: cost \: of \:  10\frac{3}{5}  \: cloth \: is \:  429\frac{3}{10}  \: rupees
