Any of the world's main continuous expanses of land are known as continents. For example Asia , Australia etc. There are 7 continents in the world whereas there was only 1 continent millions of years before called Pangaea. Then because of the movement of tectonic- plates these drifted apart and formed the 7 continents as we have today. They are Africa,Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and Antarctica.
