Superposition Principle :-

The contribution of linear source in a network comprising of linear element can be considered as the sum of individual contribution of each of the source.

  • Therefore, for considering the contribution of a particular element, we need to remove certain element from the circuit.
  • We short circuit the power source to neglect it while a current source is open circuited.

Steps :-

  1. I have first short circuited the power source (18 V) to see the contribution of the two current source in the current passing between a and b.
  2. Source transformation is used to convert current source into voltage source. To see how source transformation works, refer to the first attachment. Let the current in this case be I_1 .
  3. After that, I open circuited the two current source and determined current I_2 to see the contribution of voltage source.
  4. Then, we need to add the two currents to get the total current in the terminal.
