The Large Intestine helps to carry waste material from the digestive system.

Food gives us energy. But for that, it has to be broken down into smaller particles. The process of breaking down of food into smaller particles is called Digestion. The organs that help in digesting food form the Digestive System.

The organs of the digestive system are the mouth, food pipe, stomach, liver, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

  • The food in liquid form is absorbed by the blood for the nutrients that are required by the body through the walls of the small intestine and sends them to a different part of the body.

  • The undigested part of the food moves into the large intestine which is a long tube-like organ that connects the small intestine and anus.

  • In the Large Intestine, the excess water is removed from the undigested food before it leaves the body. And it also absorbs the remaining nutrients.

  • The waste or the undigested food passes out of the body through an opening called the anus.
