Hemant covers a certain distance with his own speed,
but when he reduces his speed by 10 km/hr his time
duration for the journey increases by 40 hrs, while if he
increases his speed by Skm/hr from his original speed he
takes 10hrs less than the original time taken. Find the
distance covered by him.

Answer:

Distance covered by Hemant = 1500 Km

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the original speed of Hemant  be S km/hr.

and distance be D km

then according to question

D= \frac{S(S-10)}{10}\times40.....................1

also,

D= \frac{S(S+5)}{5}\times10................2

\frac{S(S-10)}{10}\times40= \frac{S(S+5)}{5}\times10

solving the above equation we get S= 25 Km/hr

put this S=25 in any 1 or 2 equation to get D

D= 1500 Km

Answer: x/(y – 10) – x/y = 40 x = 4y(y-10) —(i)

x/y – x/(y + 5) = 10

x = 2y(y + 5) — (ii)

From (i) and (ii) => y = 25;

x = 1500
