Hemichordata are divided into two classes: the Enteropneusta, commonlycalled acorn worms, and the Pterobranchia, which may include the graptolites. A third class, Planctosphaeroidea, is proposed based on a single species known only from larvae.

Acorn Worms.

Hemichordata are also called Acorn Worms.

  • This phylum includes marine deuterostome creatures. They are occasionally regarded as belonging to the phylum Echinodermata's sister group.
  • There are only 100 species in the tiny phylum Hemichordata, which includes creatures that resemble worms. Some species can live alone, while others form colonies.
  • Acorn Worms is another name for these creatures.
  • Phylum Chordata was their initial classification. However, studies have shown that none of these species possess the notochord or the post-anal tail, which are characteristics of chordates.
  • As a result, a new phylum named the Hemichordata has been designated for these animals.
