Earlier, Hemichordates were included in Phylum Chordata due to the presence of a structure very similar to notochord but later Hemichordata was another Phylum in itself as the notochord like structure was discovered to be stomochord which is a part of their digestive system and not neural system. The stomochord is also called buccal diverticulum.
