Here are two sums:
2/15+1/3 and 6/7-1/3
(A) (B)

Which o the two sums is closer to 1/2?
You must show you're working clearly and state if it's A or B. (A=2/15+1/3 B=6/7-1/3)

A.2/15+1/3 =2+5/15 =7/15

B.6/7+(-1/3)=6/7-1/3=18-7/21=11/21

7/15 =0.46

11/21=0.52

1/2 =0.5

SO B IS MUCH CLOSER TO 1/2

Answer:

A = 2/15 + 1/3

 \frac{2}{15}  +  \frac{1}{3}

 \frac{2 + 5}{15}

 \frac{7}{15}

B = 6/7 - 1/3

 \frac{6}{7}   -  \frac{1}{3}

 \frac{18 - 7}{21}

 \frac{11}{21}

Hence,

1/2 = 0.5

A = 7/15 = 0.4667

= 0.5000 - 0.0333

B = 11/21 = 0.5238

= 0.5000 + 0.0238

0.0333 > 0.0238

Hence,

Sum of B is More Closer to 1/2 than Sum of A
