As the hint says that there is no logic of maths but only observation, so by observing we can see that in each digit there is some circle.

For example - 9 has one circle which is at it's upper part.

• 9999 = 4

(There are four nines each having one circle)

•8888 = 8

(There are four eights each having two circles. )

•1816 = 3

(There is one eight having two circles and one six having one circle, i total having three circles) .

•1212 = 0

(There isn't any circle, so the RHS is zero)

Similarly in the last number, there are two circles one each in one nine. So the answer is 2 .
