QUESTION:

x + y = 5

2x - 3y = 4

solve for x and Y by elimination method;

ANSWER:

Let ;

x + y = 5.....(eq.1)

2x - 3y = 4.....(eq.2)

multiply equation 1 with 2.

(x + y) \times 2 = 5 \times 2 \\ 2x + 2y = 10....(eq .3)

subtracting eq. 2 and eq.3

(2x - 3y) - (2x + 2y) = 4 - 10

2x - 3y - 2x - 2y =  - 6 \\  - 5y =  - 6 \\ y =  \frac{ - 5}{ - 6}  \\ y =  \frac{5}{6}

putting the value of y in eq.1 ;

x +  \frac{5}{6}  = 5 \\  \frac{6x + 5}{6}  = 5 \\ 6x + 5 = 30 \\ 6x = 25 \\ x =  \frac{25}{6}

FINAL ANSWER :

 \huge \red { x =  \frac{25}{6} }

 \huge \red {y =  \frac{5}{6}}
