Going Places by AR Barton revolves around Sophie, a teenage girl, her family and friends. She's a daydreamer who's always lost in her fantasies of becoming wealthy and glamorous though she's just a biscuit factory worker. The plot abruptly twists as Sophie makes a wild imagination of meeting the famous footballer Danny Casey. She also informs her brother that Danny Casey would come to meet her on a specified day according to a promise he had give to Sophie

Explanation:

(i) She here refers to Sophie, who is a biscuit factory worker but lives in a world of imagination  and dreams always to be rich and owning a boutique shop and being famous like Mary Quaint, a famed fashion designer. He refers to Danny Casey, a famous footballer whom Sophie admires and is in love with and she keeps imagining about him. To her brother and father, she also makes a story that Casey would come to meet her on a set day, as he told her.

(ii) Numerous thoughts came to the mind of Sophie. She had been waiting for Danny to come but he had not come to visit her. She felt a tremendous pain in her. She could feel the pangs of doubt stirring within her. She didn't think people believed her story. She might reassure them if Danny came that she wasn't lying. Again she thought making others believe her is not an easy thing. As so many thoughts came to her mind she felt as if there were many changes taking place inside her. That was all very frustrating and now she wanted to leave

(iii) Sophie went by a sheltered road along a waterway after it was dark. It was distant from the noisy area. She used to play as a kid in here. She was seated on a wooden bench under a long tree of the elm. According to her it was the best place to meet lovers. She sat there, and started to wait for Casey. She got lost in Casey's imagination to come and meet her. She realized after a while that he would not come and that she was only imagining.

(iv) Doubt implies a feeling of uncertainty/lack of conviction
