Here is a diagram of a person standing next to a tree. The diagram shows two centimetre rulers. The tree and the person are drawn to the same scale. The person is approximately 1.6 m tall. Using the scale diagram, estimate the height of the tree in metres.

According to the diagram and the scale given...

1.6 m tall man is shown to 2.5 cm on the scale

so, 7.5 cm on the scale for the tree shows what height of tree is the question...

since 7.5 cm is 3 times 2.5 cm height of the tree also should be three times the height of the man...

that is 1.6 multiplied by 3...

1.6 x 3 = 4.8 m.

and now it is also given that the ruler used is a 2 cm ruler.

hence our answer is twice the calculated answer.

Therefore ,  Height of the tree = 4.8 x 2 = 9.6 m.
