332 -30 BC: The Macedonians led by Alexander the Great occupied Egypt without opposition. In 323 BC, after Alexander's death, one of his generals, Ptolemy, established the Ptolemaic Dynasty. even though the Ptolemaic rulers were from foreign descent, they managed to win over the loyalty of the Egyptians.

30 BC - 641 AD: After the death of the last Ptolemaic pharaoh, Cleopatra VII, the Romans turned Egypt into a province of their empire.

618 - 629 AD: The Sassanid Persians wrested control of Egypt from the Eastern Roman Empire for a short time.

641 - 1517 AD: The Muslim Arabs conquered Egypt and other provinces of the Eastern Roman Empire. Different Muslim dynasties held control of Egypt until 1517.

1517 - 1882: The Ottoman Turks conquered Egypt and kept it under their control for over three centuries.

1798 - 1801: Revolutionary and Napoleonic France briefly took control of Egypt until expelled by the British.

1882 - 1952: The British Empire defeated the Egyptian Army in the Anglo-Egyptian War and established a protectorate over Egypt until Nasser's revolution ended the British rule in the country.
