Answer:

☆ Biological dark matter is an informal term for unclassified or poorly understood genetic material...Alternatively,the genetic material may refers to the non-coding DNA (so-called 'junk DNA) and non coding RNA produced by known organisms. The 99 percent ...of the Human Genome. Much of the genomic dark matter is throughout to originate from ancient transposable elements and from other low-complexity repetitive elements.

☆I first encountered this phenomenon when sequencing the genome of the sand rat (PSAMMAMOMYS OBESUS),a species of yerbil that lives in deserts. In particular we wanted to study the gerbils genes related to the production of insulin. For this reason,we call the hidden sequence 'dark DNA' as a reference to dark matter, the stuff that we think makes up about 25% of the Universe but we can't actually detect.
