HUMAN HEART :

》Human Heart is mesodermal in origin.

》It is located in the thoracic cavity between the lungs.

》It is protected by pericardium which is a double walled membrane enclosing pericardial fluid.

》Our heart consists of four chambers - two upper chambers called atria and two lower chambers called ventricles.

》A thick walled septum called the inter-ventricular septum separates the left and right ventricles.

》A thin septum called inter-atrial septum separates right and left atria.

》Atrioventricular septum separates the atria and the ventricle of the same side.

》Bicuspid Valve regulates the opening between the left atrium and left ventricle.

》Tricuspid Valve regulates the opening between the right atrium and right ventricle.

Structure of Human Heart :

The heart is roughly triangular in shape. It is made of special muscle called "cardiac muscle ". It has 4 compartments called " Chambers ". The upper two Chambers are called " atria" ( singular - atrium) and the lower two Chambers are called " ventricles". The job of heart is to pump blood around the whole body.

The whole of the Human Circulatory System depends upon this heart.

The various organs of the circulatory system in humans are : Heart, Artery, Veins and capillaries.

Heart's circulatory system :

Working :

The two atria receive blood from the two main veins. And the two ventricles transport blood to the entire body including lungs. The left atrium is connected to the left ventricle. The right atrium is connected to the right ventricle. Both Chambers prevent the back flow of blood into atria when the ventricles contract to pump blood out of the heart to the rest of the body. All the atria and ventricles of the heart contract and relax at appropriate times and make the heart behave like a pump.

Heart is really a double pump. As the left side of the heart acts as a pump which pumps blood into the whole body except the lungs. The right side of the heart acts aas another pump which pumps blood only into the lungs. The two pumps in the heart work independently.
