1. Histogen theory is proposed by Hanstein. According to this theory the shoot apical meristem consists of three meristematic zones or layers.
a) Dermatogen: outer layer which forms epidermis and epidermal tissue system.
b) Periblem: middle layer which gives rise to cortexand endodermis.
c) Plerome: the iner most layer forms pith and stele.
2. Quiesent centre is a group of cells up to 1000 in number in the form of a hemisphere, with the flat face towards the root tip.
