Question : What is the jurisdiction of a High Court of a state?

Answer : Jurisdiction refers to the area or topics on which the different courts can take place . Their are presently 23 high courts in India .

Apallete Jurisdiction :- This kind of jurisdiction gives the high court right to listen to the appeals of people which were not applicable at the local level. The high court have the right to judge the cases on civil and criminal issues passed on to them through local courts.

Advisory jurisdiction :- The high court can advise the government and governor of the state on various issues if they desire.

Original jurisdiction :- In some matters like marriage, divorce, company laws, etc. High Courts have the power to listen to disputes at first glance without being passed on.

Writ jurisdiction :- The high courts hace the power to make laws on the enforcement of fundamental rights.

Supervisory jurisdiction :- High court has the power to supervise local courts and to transfer the cases from local courts to itself.
