Hey

Though function of heart is very much complicated , but I m gonna explain it .

So , the function is somewhat like :-
As we kniw , heart is made up od Cardiac muscle , which has the power . capacity to contract or relax accordingly the time period or depending upom the supply of blood .

So it's main function is to pump the blood ti the whole body and all comolications goes around it .

See ,
• First of all , the blood comes from lungs ( by diffusion through alveoli ) through pulmonary vein , which carries oxygen with it and known as oxygenated blood . So , this blood reaches to heart in the left aurtium .

• After that as the aurtium contracts and ventricals part relaxes and as a result the oxygenated blood shifts to the left ventricle .

• Again as left ventricles contracts , then the blood shifts to the major artery , known as Arota and then blood gets supplied to the wole body part through artery ( only oxygenated blood ) .

• Now , the deoxygenated blood which is carried by the veins get in the right aurtium and on the contraction , it shifts to the right ventricle .

• Then it comes out of lung ans through the pulmonary artery it gets carried away to the lungs ( alveoli , where diffusion takes place ) and after diffusion process these deoxygenated bloood releases carbon dioxide and gets out of the body and the oxygen is taken .

So , this is somewhat the mechanism of working of Heart .
It's overall work , though it is complicated _!!

thanks :)

Hola there,

*Working of human heart*

The heart beats all the time throughout the life of an individual. Heart beat is the rhythmic contraction (systole) and relaxation (diastole) of the heart muscles. The rate of heart beat in a human adult is 72 times per min. The heart beat which lasts for about 0.8 sec passes through 3 phases constitute a cardiac cycle.

(i) Joint diastole: When muscles of all four chambers of the heart are relaxed, blood from large veins called vena cava, move into right atrium. It takes about 0.4 seconds. The blood in the vena cava is deoxygenated as it comes from tissues Which have used up all the oxygen.
Pulmonary vein from lungs also pours the oxygenated blood into the left atrium during joint diastole.

(ii) Atrial systole: During artial contraction, right atrium pours deoxygenated blood into the right ventricle and the left atrium pours oxygenated blood into the left ventricle. It last for about 0.1 seconds.

(iii) Ventricular systole: During ventricular contraction, left ventricle pours the oxygenated blood into the largest artery of the body called aorta which distributes blood to all parts of the body. From right ventricle, deoxygenated blood flows to the lungs through pulmonary artery for oxygenation. It occurs for about 0.3 seconds.

Since, blood flows twice through the heart, it is called double circulation.
It comprises of pulmonary and systematic circulation.

Hope this helps....:)
