Answer:

Write balanced chemical equations for the following:

Answer :

(a) Chlorine gas is passed through dry slaked lime.

Elements ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Symbols

Chlorine gas ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Calcium hydroxide ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Calcium oxychloride ⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀

When Chlorine gas is passed through dry slaked lime, the formation of calcium oxychloride takes place.

Calcium oxychloride also known as bleaching powder or chloride of lime.

★ Chlorine gas + Calcium hydroxide → Calcium oxychloride + Water.

(b) Bleaching powder is kept open in air.

When bleaching powder is kept open in air it reacts with atmospheric carbon dioxide and will form to calcium carbonate and chlorine gas.

★ Bleaching powder + Carbon dioxide → Calcium carbonate + Chlorine

(c) Sodium bicarbonate reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid.

When sodium bicarbonate reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid, it will form sodium chloride also known as common salt , carbon dioxide and water respectively.

Sodium Bicarbonate + hydrochloric acid → Sodium chloride + Carbon dioxide + water.

(d) Electricity is passed through brine.

When electric current is passed through brine, then Sodium hydroxide, hydrogen gas(at anode) and chlorine gas released (at cathode)

(e) Formation of baking soda from sodium chloride.

Sodium hydrogen carbonate also known as baking soda is formed when Sodium Chloride, Ammonia ,Water and Carbon dioxide reacts together.

★ Sodium Chloride + Ammonia + Water + Carbon dioxide → Sodium hydrogen carbonate + Ammonium chloride

Here are the following reactions.
