Answer:

Required fraction is 4 / 7.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the numerator of that fraction be a and denominator of that fraction be b.

Therefore, required fraction : a / b

According to the question :

= > Sum of numerator and denominator = 3 less twice the denominator

= > a + b = 2b - 3

= > a = 2b - b - 3

= > a = b - 3 ...( 1 )

Also, given, if numerator and denominator is decreased by 1, new fraction becomes 1 / 2.

According to the condition :

\implies \dfrac{a-1}{b-1}=\dfrac{1}{2}

From ( 1 ) : a = b - 3

\implies \dfrac{b-3-1}{b-1}=\dfrac{1}{2}

\implies \dfrac{b-4}{b-1}=\dfrac{1}{2}

= > 2( b - 4 ) = b - 1

= > 2b - 8 = b - 1

= > 2b - b = 8 - 1

= > b = 7

Therefore,

= > a = b - 3

= > a = 7 - 3

= > a = 4

Hence the required fraction is 4 / 7.
