Not to her. But to Harry, without intending her to overhear it. She's clever enough and reasonably insightful enough to know that Ron, for all it upset her, wasn't exactly lying when he observed, TO HARRY, that she didn't have any friends. ... So Hermione lied - and we know she's got a lack of common sense.
