All fungi are heterotrophic and also the most common decomposers, which means that they get the energy they need to live from other organisms.

Fungi has various strategies for obtaining organic compounds, that are basically carbon-based compound. Primarily, fungi are either saprotrophs which decay dead organic matter, or symbionts, which obtain carbon from living organisms.

Thus heterotrophic fungi can live as saprophytes, parasites and symbionts i.e. all the three of it.
