  1. Heterotrophs are animals hat feed on other plants and animals for their survival. In a food chain, fist comes the autotrophs which prepare their own food, followed by heterotrophs. So, the level of heteroptrophs in a food chain is secondary.
  2. If consumers of specific level either increase or decrease in number, the effect on food chain will be drastic. An increase in consumers would mean a decrease in the availability of material which in turn would lead to reduction in consumers as the numbers will die due to scarcity of food.
