Generator is a device that converts machenical energy into electrical energy. It is based on the principle of induced current that when a coil is rotated in a magnetic field, current is induced in it.
There are two types of generator :
1) AC generator : The generator that produces AC (Alternating Current) is called AC generator. An AC is the one which changes it's direction periodically. In these generator slip rings types of commutator are used to change the direction of current.
2) DC generator : The generator which produces DC (Direct current) is known as DC generator. DC is the one whose direction remains constant. In these generator slip rings is exchanged with split rings types of commutators .
