Hey all, I am university student who cares a lot about both fashion and mental health. For one of my classes I created a business idea that would be a fashion company based around promoting vulnerability with mental health. If you would be so kind as to answer some of these questions below I would be very grateful :)
Would you wear clothing that expresses that you deal with mental illness?
Is therapy a practical option to deal with mental illness?
Would it help you to know if your friends were dealing with mental illness?
How much would you pay for clothing that represents mental illness?
Would it help if people knew you dealt with mental illness?
Answers
Answer: Your idea is amazing!
Explanation:
A) Personally, it would depend what kind of clothing it is! I love the idea of clothing that helps express my mental illnesses but i wouldn’t want anything that would seem like I’m taking my mental illness as an advantage, but I think that it would be an amazing idea, it would make people with mental illnesses feel better about themselves (hopefully!)
B) I’m not completely sure about this question! When I was going through the mental illness of self-harm I never saw a therapist or had any therapy so I am unsure on how to answer this question, sorry .
C) I would rather know if my friend was dealing with a mental illness, but not knowing wouldn’t bother me that much because it’s their life’s and I don’t need to control them.
D) I wouldn’t pay any-more money than my normal clothes unless it was for a good cause, like a charity or something along those lines.
Hope that helps a lot, good luck on your business!
Firstly, I really love your idea for a business and think that it will do well if you decide to pursue it.
Personally, I would wear clothes that express my trouble with mental illness as I would like others to not only be aware of my condition, but encourage them to learn more about said illness.
Therapy is the best way to deal with mental illness. It provides a healthy outlet for the client to talk about everything troubling them and gives the therapist a better idea of what the client is going through and lets them figure out the best way to help them.
Knowing that friends deal with mental illness's would help me to figure out the best way to help or support them if/when needed. Knowing is half the battle after all ;)
I believe that the price for the clothing should be the same as normal clothes. Doing that will help spread the message that mental illness is a normal thing and shouldn't mean that we need to treat people differently because of something they can't help.
Like I mentioned earlier, I believe it would be helpful for others to know about me dealing with my own mental illness. I would personally appreciate it if more people were able to know what others are going through and how to help if possible. It doesn't even need to be something big, just checking in and asking how you are. Even small things like that make a huge difference
I really hope this was helpful and that everything goes well for you in the future. Best of luck!
