An astronaut is said to be weightless when he travels in a satellite.Does it mean that the earth does not attract him?

Satellites in orbit appear to be floating because of speed.

The astronaut is not floating, they are actually in freefall. This happens when the normal reaction force exerted on an object is equal to zero (i.e. the normal force equals mass×gravity, which is the weight of the object).

A good example of this is on a rollercoaster. As the car passes the peak of a hill it starts to go down and your body lifts from the seat.
