hydrogen shows dual nature because there is only one electron in its outermost i.e. in its first shell now, for becoming stable it can either donate its one electron or can take another electron as it donates there will be no electron and thus, become stable and if it takes one more electron it would have two electrons i.e. maximum number number of electron in first shell thus, become stable and thus, shows nature of both metals and non-metals.
