Bond length is defined as the distance between the centres of two convantely bonded atoms.

The length of the bond is determined by the number of bonded electrons(the bond order). The higher the bond , the stronger the pull between the two atoms and the shorter the bond length.

In molecular geometry, bond length or bond distance is defined as the average distance between nuclei of two bonded atoms in a molecule. It is a transferable property of a bond between atoms of fixed types, relatively independent of the rest of the molecule.

Ball-and-spring model of a chemical bondA bond between two atoms can be thought of as a spring with two balls attached to it. Any stretch or compression of the spring will initiate oscillations of the atoms with respect to their equilibrium (unperturbed) positions. The potential energy function for this system is also indicated. The minimum energy occurs at the equilibrium distance r0, which is where the bond length is measured.
