Why Iron does not burn on heating but Iron Fillings burn vigorously when sprinkled over a flame. Why?

this happens due to the size of practical as size increases the surface area which speed up the process or reaction.

so accq to you iron block should burn more vigorously than iron fillings.
it is like this that iron block will require more heat and it will take more time also to burn but opposite of that fillings will burn rapidly
