Zinc react with excess sodium hydroxide to form sodium zincate(Na2ZnO2) along with hydrogen gas. Zinc is a transition metal which shows moderate reactivity. Zinc reacts with NaOH to form sodium zincate with the evolution of hydrogen gas.
Zn+2NaOh=Na2ZnO2+H2. When zinc granules react with sodium hydroxide solution sodium zincate is formed and a colourless odourless gas is released which puts off a glowing splinter with a pop sound
Uses of Zinc Hydroxide – Zn(OH) Used in medicine as an adsorbing agent. Utilized for careful dressings where it works as a retentive. Huge bandages that are utilized post medical procedure are covered with the zinc compound for engrossing the blood from the injury.
