Summary: The story is narrated by Hazel Green Lancaster, a 16-year old girl who suffers from an interminable disease. She is forced by her parents to attend a counselling-support group where she meets and falls in love with August Waters, a 17-year old amputee.

Like: The treatment of a topic as serious as death and loss is smartly (and sensitively) done without being overtly emotional or philosophical about it, while excellently portraying the pain of loss.

Dislike: The book was criticised by a few as being “mawkish at best, and exploitative at worst”, since the romanticizing of pain and suffering was not accepted by many."
