the "Frog and the Nightingale" by Vikram Seth use multiple poetic devices, including alliteration, onomatopoeia, imagery, metaphor, personification. 

Meanings which will be helpful for your better understanding
 
Imagery ways to help the reader "visualize".A simile is comparing two different objects USING "like" or "as". The metaphor comparing two different objects WITHOUT "like" or "as". Personification is comparing an inanimate (non-living) object with a person. Alliteration is  Using several words with the same first initial, like a tongue twister onomatopoeia words that sound like what they mean.
