the government has launched a major road development projects linking delhi - kolkata - chennai - mumbai and delhi by six lane super highway . the north south corridors linking srinagar , and east - west corridors connecting silver and porbandar are part of this project . the major objective of these super highway the is reduce the time and distance between the mega cities of india . these highway project are being implemented by the national highway authority of india.

The Golden Quadrilateral is a highway network connecting many of the major industrial, agricultural and cultural centres of India. A quadrilateral of sorts is formed by connecting Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai, and hence its name.
